And garbage strewn everywhere. I also wouldn’t be surprised if parts of the building get torn apart.* Why would a hotel owner agree to such madness? Maybe there are huge financial incentives hidden in their contracts with the city.
* Side story: A guy I know made a pretty decent dollar doing repair work at a government-owned apartment building. The residents would tear out the copper pipes, the light fixtures, etc. then sell them for scrap. My friend would be called in to make the repairs.
Rinse and repeat. But he finally quit as going there. It became too dangerous.
I worked in Midtown at Rock Ctr, and on Madison Ave in advertising, from 1978-1985, and it was a decent place. Then a bedbug infestaton hit the hotels, and tourism dropped-off 90%. My wife and I went back for “Cats” on Broadway, but didn’t stay overnight; we drove nack to PA after the shows. I wouldn’t go back now, even at gunpoint.
