• California is the #2 worst state for gun owners due to its permit-to-purchase and reciprocity laws.
• New York, Illinois, and New Jersey take the #3, #4, and #5 spot in our list of worst states for gun ownership due to strict purchasing and carrying requirements.
• North Carolina, Maine, and Ohio fall into spots #25, #24, and #23 due to new restrictive legislation with some relaxed carry laws.
• Some states rank lower than others due to excessive infringements, additional taxes, and the current Governor’s 2A statements.
• State and local laws defining Stand Your Ground vs. Duty to Retreat vary and should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Everything in this article is an infringement.
I’ve always thought Vermont had relaxed gun control laws. Did they recently change them or something?
As I understand it, Calif has a vast list of firearms you are not allowed to have. Hawaii regulations suck, but other than magazine size restrictions on handguns, no firearm is prohibited.
On a related note, permit me to pass along a story about the District of Columbia.
Years ago I attended a talk given by an NRA lawyer. He said there are many federal and state laws about the transport of firearms. Obey them. But even if you do, it doesn’t matter if you’re stopped by the DC police and they find a gun in your car.
You could have followed every last rule to the letter. Have all your firearms in locked cases. Have the ammunition in a separate location in the car. Etc. None of that matters. The DC police will arrest you, and throw in a filthy DC jail.
Then it’s up to your lawyer to get you out.
Oh, and one more thing. Right behind DC are Baltimore, New York City, and Chicago.
2A bump for later....
Oklahoma in the Top 10.
Nebraska, Ohio and North Carolina in the worst 25 are surprising to me.
The rest of them, about what I’d expect from blue cesspools.
what are the best states?
nm, i see the link to best states on your site there- NH is number 1
How is PA worse than VA?
Vermont = 20 and Maine = 24 ???????
Sheesh, it’s a sad state of affairs for both those states.
Why Vermont and Maine? Both have permitless CCW and open carry.
New Mexico used to be pretty good on gun rights, but it’s taken a hard left turn over the last couple decades. It started going downhill after Gary Johnson was term-limited out of office.
Colorado is trying really hard to be number one.
Michigan #10?
Everyone I know in MI is heavily armed. They don’t give a flying fig what anti-gun laws are passed by the weenie state legislature.
