Eva says something similar thing happened, when she was a child, and she/others were loaded on to the boxcars, being taken to death camps.
She wondered why, years later (after surviving that horrid ordeal) what would’ve happened had people stood on the tracks, and, stopped the trains ... while others might have tried to pry open the rail car doors.
She said people stood on the side of the tracks, crying....but, that that didn’t help.
The entire story is very much worth the read.
