The morning silence shattered as the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore met its unexpected fate, crumbling into the sea in a breathtaking cascade of steel and concrete. The collision, captured in a chilling livestream, unfolded with surreal intensity as a towering cargo ship collided with one of the bridge's support beams. Smoke billowed from the vessel, mingling with the chaos as emergency responders raced against time to rescue 20 people plunged into the icy waters below.
In the digital realm, the shocking footage spread like wildfire, triggering a wave of disbelief and concern across social media platforms. The Maryland Transportation Authority's urgent alert echoed through cyberspace, warning commuters to steer clear of the disaster-stricken area. Meanwhile, on the ground, Governor Wes Moore's declaration of a state of emergency underscored the gravity of the situation, mobilizing resources for a swift and coordinated response.

“Bridges are amazing feats of engineering, but they look very flimsy when they come crashing down.”
It did. Don’t some bridges have bumpers around the supporting columns to prevent ships from hitting the colums?
But wouldn’t the ship be required to take on an American pilot captain? I think that is the way it works.
I guess I’m one of three conspiracy theorists in the country. What does the captain say happened?

Worse, Iran backed climate change…
I would think a harbor pilot would have been bringing that in through that stretch
Yes, but bottom line that ship is the ship’s masters responsibility and they are responsible for its safety and
anything that goes wrong no matter who caused it.
That is why his commands stand above your opinions and judgments, it is his ship while they are master and you are its servant.
Laws of the sea, guys.
If you watch the video of the collision, the lights go out on the ship from what looks like a power failure just a few seconds before it started heading for the support piling. The lights then come back on as if power was restored. Then the lights go out again and come back on just as it strikes the support. For some reason it lost power and steering.
perhaps this bridge take-out was performed by an aggrieved party pushing a name change to max intensity? scouring records of people trying to change the name of the bridge to “the saint floyd bridge” and matching to the crew list may be revealing. just my 2.
Sorry to hear that. Many will suffer because of it.
How many skippers required to run the Exxon Valdez?
One and a fifth.
I saw that movie.
It is absolutely AI-generated, and it is atrocious.
That was a truly beautiful bridge. I hope all the innocent’s are rescued.
“Whiteness is causing Bridge Deserts in black cities.”
- Michelle Obama
While it could be a terrorist attack, wouldn’t it be timed to maximize deaths? On the other hand, maybe they had to wait until a large enough ship was near the bridge and take the opportunity when they could.
I agree with you on the quality of Maryland roads, but neighboring Virginians are mostly firmly convinced that Virginia does them better.
That’s not been my experience, though.
“What did the captain actually say about how this happened?”
The captain was probably not operating the ship. Typically professional pilots, who know the harbor, come on board ships to pilot them in and out of harbors.
Biden will inform us soon that is Trump’s fault...
