Study Finds That GOP Senators Are More Conservative Than Predecessors
Daily Wire ^ | 25 March 2024 | Luke Rosiak

The U.S. Senate has become more polarized during President Joe Biden’s tenure, with Democrats and Republicans increasingly playing the role of hard-liners even though leadership on the Republican side of the aisle remains moderate, according to a new study from the CPAC Foundation’s Center for Legislative Accountability.

The group assigns scores to lawmakers based on how often they took the more conservative position — Democrats voted the conservative position only 2% of the time, whereas Republicans took the conservative position only 80% of the time — a far cry from the 98% that would be expected if Republicans were the mirror image of modern-day Democrats.

Sounds good. But IMHO it may be that the Republican minority can talk the conservative talk without have to walk the walk as long as they’re in a minority. When they’re in a majority and can actually implement conservative principles, they seem to forget that they’re supposed to be conservative.

Thank you for referencing that article Sam77. Please note that the following critique is directed at CPAC Foundation’s Center for Legislative Accountability.

"Study Finds That GOP Senators Are More Conservative [??? emphasis added] Than Predecessors"

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

So-called conservative position is the wrong criterion imo. More specifically CPAC Foundation’s Center for Legislative Accountability should be looking for compliance with the federal government's constitutionally limited powers imo.

And since there is presently no accountability, that simplifies making the report unfortunately.

“Moderate” sounds so putrid to me. It makes no logical sense.

‘I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.’

Revelation 3:15-16

Good!

I would rather that EVERYONE on BOTH sides were completely honest about what they want and let us the voters decide how we want to represent us!

Rather than have them lie to us only to get the nomination!

I have something I call the “Hawaii vacation scenario” that applies to this.

You ask someone...”Do you want to go on vacation in Hawaii?”

They nearly all say... “Yeah, that would be great. I would love to go on vacation in Hawaii.”

Then you ask...”How much money have you saved for your trip? How much are flights going for? What places are you thinking of staying in? Are you going on any tours when you are there?”

It’s easy to say..”I’m conservative. I want to shut down the border. I want to shrink the size of government. I want to stop funding Planned Parenthood. I want to end regulations. I want to fix the economy. I want to hold bureaucrats accountable.”

Just saying these things takes no commitment. It takes no political capital. It risks nothing.

The question is...What price would you pay to enact these things? If the answer is “nothing”, then you really aren’t conservative. If the answer is “everything”, then you are a leader.

They aren’t really saying they want to do all of those things. They are saying...”In a perfect world, if the Democrats were all on board, if I could just do it by snapping my fingers and expend no effort...I would do those things.”

Look how much Trump has given up for what he believes.

Look how little “true conservatives” like Jim Jordan or Ted Cruz have accomplished despite all of their big talk.

The GOP has always talked the talk but always vote like the Dems; two wings of the same bird.

We have a few principled conservatives in the Senate today such as Marsha Blackburn, Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley and J. D. Vance, but most of the Republicans are various degrees of lukewarm.

The higher the Debt goes then the more conservative the voters will become.
