There is a contradiction in the best response to the two threats. Avoiding crowds is a good anti-terror strategy, but that tends to expose one to ordinary criminality and panhandling. I therefore prefer to do shopping errands early in the day, before crowds and before the usual villains have roused themselves to do mischief.
I do the same. It takes until afternoon for the malt liquor and weed to wear off.
