>> From what I understand, even though Henry VIII set himself up as the Head of the Church of England, the Church still required dispensations. Henry had to get a dispensation to marry Jane Seymour, because they were both descended from the Plantagenets. <<

King Henry VIII was so Catholic he was named Defender of the Faith for something he wrote.

He had to get a dispensation to marry his first wife Catherine of Aragon (Spain) because she had been married to his brother, who died. When the marriage did not produce sons and he wanted to marry Anne Boleyn, he applied for an annulment from Rome, which was not forthcoming.

It was this that caused him to declare himself the head of the Church in England. This caused a break with the Catholic Church. The king was ex-communicated and an interdict put in England— no sacraments allowed.

Hence, getting permission from Rome to marry Jane Seymour was moot.

Henry VIII was given the title Defender of the Faith for his Defense of the Seven Sacraments attacking Martin Luther, who said there were only two sacraments.

Only two English monarchs after Henry VIII have been Catholics (Mary I and James II) but they still put D.F. on their coins (or least they still did recently).

Debka was associated with Israel intelligence.

They received a lot of criticism at times because of things they stated.

I thought by invoking their name that it was because of such inaccuracies.

Not sure the status of Debka, think the founder/owner may have died. Seems like I read something about that.

It may still be around. Have not read anything from them lately.

It’s the name of a page on YouTube. He also does behavior analysis. But, he has a good sense of humor while discussing royal news. He is not favorable to Harry and Meghan who he nick names the dutches of sausages (because of his accent).

As I stated previously, despite Henry breaking from Rome, and establishing himself as the Head of the Church of England, he was still required to request permission from Bishop Cranmer to marry Jane, which he received. The day after Anne’s death, and the day after Bishop Thomas Cranmer, the Archbishop of Canterbury granted the dispensation, Seymour and Henry became betrothed. Dispensations were still required in certain instances, and they were granted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Thanks for the heads-up. Hadn't seen that yet. Is he working out the details for election interference, and the next steal with England's help again? Looking for another Russian dossier on Trump to be produced in London? I hope he's been registered as a foreign agent with the State Department before cutting any deals with Sunak, or maybe Bammy just wants to meet with a brown foreign leader without having to go all the way to Africa.

Did Wm III and Mary II get a dispensation from Canterbury though? They were definitely first cousins... but that isn’t a prohibited degree in the law of Moses... only parents, aunts, uncles and siblings also step parents but not step siblings... are there...

"Did Wm III and Mary II get a dispensation from Canterbury though?"

I did several attempts at searching for that, but could find nothing. I'm wondering if by that time, the Church of England laws on kinship/marriage had changed. Victoria and Albert were first cousins as well, and third cousins once removed.

It is rumored that Charles II became a Catholic on his deathbed.

The Emperor Claudius married his own niece Agrippina the Younger but did not bother asking St. Peter for a dispensation. It didn’t turn out well for him (Agrippina is believed to have had him poisoned).

That’s what I have read, that a Catholic priest was snuck in for the purpose when Charles was about to die. Charles and James spent much of the interregnum after Charles I’s execution in France (their mother was the daughter of the French king Henry IV).

My paternal grandparents were third cousins once removed and as far as I know did not need a dispensation. They had 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren so no obvious genetic problems.

Hope it’s not Kate. It would be difficult for Wm. to do better than her.
