My understanding is that the Founding Fathers intended with the free speech clause to enable citizens to criticize the government.

Without that ability, there is no freedom.

The real problem here is that very few have the money to take such a case to th Supreme Court.

As maddening as the press is at times, freedom of the press is essential and must be protected at all times, like them or not.
