The graph shows the Average Surface Temperature Anomaly for the contiguous United States since 2005. The data comes from the U.S. Climate Reference Network (USCRN) which is a properly sited (away from human influences and infrastructure) and state-of-the-art weather network consisting of 114 stations in the USA...The US Climate Reference Network record from 2005 shows no obvious warming during this period. Other than a sharp cold snap mid-January, it has been way too mild in Texas.

Why is the temperature peaking in January? Is it because of temperature rise in the southern hemisphere?

Not sure why the FR Administrator moved this post to "Bloggers and Personal."

"Watts Up With That" is the most visited Climate Science website in the world.

The chart I posted is the most recent monthly data from the most accurate surface temperature network in the world.

The January 2024 USA average surface temperature was actually BELOW the 20 year USA average temp.

Unless the FR Administrator thinks Global Warming hysteria is NOT news or activism, I request that this post be placed back in the News/Activism section.

Thank you.

The chart shows the Temperature Anomaly.

It means that the USA Lower 48 states were actually cooler than the 20 year average January temperature.

Least amount of sunlight. It lags behind the winter solstice. Just Iike summer is hotter in July and August.

A .14 degree change in one year?

That doesn’t mean anything, either way. climate change is a game of decades not single years.

Re: "A -0.14 degree change in one year?"

No.

A minus -0.14 decline compared to the 20 year January average.

Since 2023 was allegedly the hottest year in the history of Planet Earth, I thought FR readers would enjoy seeing that the average USA temp was below average in January.

Unfortunately, the FR Admin decided this shocking climate news should be sent to the Bloggers and Personal section, where none of the FR science and engineering readers are ever going to notice it.

It's beyond decades as well..... Try millennia at least.

Actually it’s a blend of uniformitarianism and catastrophism.

When the meteorite hit near the Yucatán peninsula at the end of the Cretaceous the climate changed in a hurry 🙀🦤

As 1 example.

I realize that and short of a catastrophic event, that kind of drastic change would not happen.

The key word in global warming is “global”. The USA is only 4% of the earth’s surface area.

And globally January Had the warmest monthly average temp ever recorded.

We have only had accurate thermometers since the 1750’s. Any thing before that is a guess.
