My sister made the mistake once of telling a friend , in front of my Ukrainian grandmother, that we were Russian.

BIG mistake.

Besides, it shows a gross level of ignorance on your part of their language, customs, culture, and tradition.

The Ukraine is no more Russian than the Brits are American.
