Although it was in the 1980’s, I worked High Rise Construction and close to half of the guys wore their hard hats backwards, kind of like how people wear their ball caps backwards. I am “certainly” not a supporter or defender of Joe Biden but people who think wearing his hard hat backwards is something to make a big deal about are out of touch with real blue collar workers.
IIRC, the guys that wear their hard hats backwards attach the webbing backwards. So the bulky adjustment thing is to the back, and all the webbing still works properly to protect their head - but the visor is pointed backwards.
