They are your legacy. They are continuity, of blood, of culture, of memory. That is the traditional view, across most cultures.
That “abusive” thing is extremely individualist, and modern.
They are distinct separate people, not things or extensions of you.
To try and say otherwise is a trait of 3 very bad psych disorders.
And children of the one specific disorder will yes their dysfunctional parent to death, then hate them with white hot intensity when away from them.
And if you have to be fawned over constantly, proclaiming superiority, congrats you fit that disorder.
