Both Lake and Trump are very media savvy and fully aware of how agenda driven media people will distort their comments.
Trump loves NDAs and Kari is a big proponent of making sure that all of her media interactions are recorded under her control so she has both audio and visual proof of exactly what was discussed.
Pretty sure the discussion occurred in Lake's own home as part of a pre scheduled meeting so Lake had plenty of time to set up recording devices to document the discussion.
She would be a fool to not do so and she is no fool. Arizona is a one party consent recording state so DeWit could have legally recorded the conversation and could have had it edited himself to create damaging audio of Lake to destroy her if she could not be bought off.
In fact, there is a better than 50-50 chance DeWit was wearing a wire for exactly this purpose. Reasonably confident that Lake has a very well validated audio video recording of this discussion to prevent him from either discrediting her or even black mailing her with a doctored transcript.

From what I heard on the audio, it sounded as though it was abruptly started mid-conversation. Speculation...possibly because Lake saw where DeWit was going and hit the record button.
Btw, cell phone recording aps are easy to get and will record both sides of the conversation. Could have been cell call, I dunno..
