Lt. Col. Oleh Babiy commanded the operation. On August 30, 2023, while covering the retreat of his brothers-in-arms, Oleh was mortally wounded during an ambush.
Oleh and his group have conducted 9 succesful recon operations in the Russian rear, 12 measures for local resistance organization and found up to 70 important strategic objects which were used by the Ukrainian Army to inflict damage upon.

Ukrainian intelligence officers walked more than 600 kilometers across russian territory to destroy TU-22 bombers. Having penetrated deep behind enemy lines, the scouts completed their task - they destroyed a russian TU-22M3 bomber and disabled two more.
The Main Intelligence Directorate opened the curtain on the operation to destroy the Tu-22M3 at the Seltsy airfield in the Novgorod region.
Returning to the territory of Ukraine, the reconnaissance group under the command of Colonel Oleh Babii was ambushed and entered into an unequal battle with the invaders. On August 30, 2023, while covering the departure of his fellow soldiers, Oleh Babii was mortally wounded.
For his heroic feat, Oleh Babii was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Golden Star. Posthumously.
