I would say that how much corporations have cut back on their work force, the US government could probably cut back in similar numbers without hurting productivity. Do it through a combination of downloading federal responsibilities to the states and let the states hire according to their need to handle what the feds eliminated.

It’s going to have to be done because, to not do it, is going to eventually need 100% elimination of the workforce because we can’t payy them.

I agree, but just swinging a machete and lopping off 75% of the workforce without considering what they do is mindless.
