The “bad luck” bit is being used sarcastically, cf. the Heinlein quote that opens the piece

Bad luck??!!
As others have noted, Heinlein was being sarcastic. Heinlein introduced a very young me to the concepts of libertarianism when I was reading his science fiction as a kid - I'll always be grateful to him for that, as well as the entertainment.

When you abuse the people who have the means to move, they will move. I felt abused by 1999 and moved in Idaho in Dec 2000. I was tired of exorbitant taxation and crushing regulations AND no semblance of representation at the state or federal government level. I was just a convenient tax slave to fund liberal fantasies. Leaving was the correct option.

List of the Top Wealth Producers that have fled CA? That is going to hard to find. The original article was in the LA Times, so that may be the best source for it.

Sounds like the Cauliphonyans are going to find it tough trying to get their “reparations” fund together. Maybe the New Yawkers will have some left over from their “reparations” fiasco that they can pitch in for the African slaves in Cauliphonya.

Robert Heinlein is one of my all time favorite authors. Even if you do not enjoy science fiction, you HAVE TO READ Methuselah’s Children, and the epic Time Enough For Love. The first one is just 110 pages or so. The second is incredible.
Heinlein and his wife were brilliant scientists and thinkers in their own right.
As I said, even if you do not enjoy science fiction, these two books are must reads. Heinlein reminds me of Rush Limbaugh. They both tell timeless truths that echo in eternity.
