Neither does Britain.

Two crippled old men reduced to yelling insults at each other.

The difference is the British could if they wanted to.

Argentina couldn't organize a child's birthday party.

And that is the way it has been for 80 years.

The only reason their neighbors have not taken them over is that the land is nice but who wants to have to deal with the Argentines? The whining at high volume would give you a major headache.

And Argentina has no might.

Yes. They were militarily much stronger in 1982, when they tried the first Falklands grab.

Of course, the same could be said of Britain.

The thing is despite the Argentine military actually being in charge they were not all that then either.

Good for pushing the disarmed civilians in cities around, they walked a bit more carefully out in the country where people might be armed, but not exactly top drawer.

Or even middle drawer.

Might have been able to beat Bolivia. But that is only a might.

I’m just going off the military hardware available at the time.

Of course, military strength is much more than that. Argentina should have been able to hold the islands with the troops they stationed there, yet the Brits still kicked their ass.

Yeah they had the equipment.

Did not have military culture to win. Treated their enlisted like trash and they were conscripts so had no choice about being there.

I was in Chile and Argentina at that time, both were military run dictatorships with conscription but the military culture in Chile was superior. If the UK had just let Argentina have the Falklands Argentina had already announced that they were going after the Beagle Islands next and Chile was getting ready to kick their hindquarters so hard they would have to unzip to talk.

I hope Argentina can turn it around. But when you are dealing with a generational mindset that is hard to pull off.

come on. The Boers or somebody was in South Africa first. Who’s in control now?

*What kind of a country abandons its sovereign territory and simply turns its back on its own people because another country wants some of its territory?*
Israel gave up the Gaza-like they wanted to?

GB gave up Fiji, India and where else? They came to realize what buttheads they were so Andrew Young was right-they did invent racism. Ask Franz Fanon.
