"Estonia had decided to send 🇺🇦 Ukraine €80 million military aid package, including Javelin anti-tank missiles."

Kaja is with us on Ukraine.

Sweden's Military has long structured and trained to meet three threats: Russia, Russia, and Russia.

They are going to nail shut the Baltic, into the North NATO Sea.

They also bring substantial morale support to the team:

Thanks Pootie.

No really, thanks.

Looks like Orban blocked the 50 Billion euros for Ukraine (just announced by EU Council President Charles Michel).

Not sure what the next step is.

They still have all day tomorrow, and possibly into the weekend.

The 26 Nations of the EU in favor of financial aid to Ukraine can do so outside of the EU structure.

...and they should decrement funds that would otherwise go to Hungary in the process.

There need to be costs and pain imposed on Orban. Incentives alone are not enough.

ISW reports:

“The US Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for 2024 on December 14, which notably includes an extension of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).

The NDAA approves $886.3 billion for defense and authorizes $300 million for the Ukrainian Security Assistance Initiative for fiscal years 2024 and 2025, while also extending the Initiative until the end of 2026.

The USAI is notably meant to fund the federal government to pay relevant industries directly to produce weapons and security assistance for Ukraine, as opposed to providing Ukraine with assistance from the US’s existing stockpiles”

Good information, little troubled that some of the sources cited are monetized, because we know that means the information is invalid, right? Well seems like that’s inferred

So what is my take away,
First after nearly 2 years Russia hold less Ukranian territory than it did shortly after the invasion.

After more than a year after Kharkiv and Kherson “goodwill gestures “ 10am of thousands of dead and wounded Russians, thousands of pieces of equipment including several ships, a submarine the Russians “successes” are almost taking bakmut and adiivka, not so much, Ukrainians on left bank.

Western aid continues (was told Europe needed to step up and they are), western munitions production is on pace to meet goals, Ukranian domestic production is rising rapidly.

Not all good news, but certainly not all bad.

One question, after day one of the invasion did any Russian planners envision this scenario almost 2 years later?

Indeed Merry Christmas to you

Or Moldova could just rejoin Romania.

“Or Moldova could just rejoin Romania.”

That proposal was getting a lot of discussion shortly after the February 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

I have not heard much on that in recent months, and negotiations on joining the EU are progressing with Moldova.

It seems that it would talk an urgent existential Russian threat to drive Moldova to re-join Romania, but I don’t know the domestic politics of Moldova, to know why.

The Ukraine Moldova border pre-WW2 was the Dniester River. What is now Transnistria was part of Ukraine, and many “Transnistrians” actually have closer ties with Ukraine than Moldova.

most likely if Moldova joins the EU, it then opens a border with Romania and de facto becomes part of Romania, if not de jure.

It would be better for Moldova to give up transdniester in favor of this bigger “win”
