War is supposed to be a LAST resort, not a FIRST resort.

“They were told by Johnson that Russia was on the verge of collapse”

Many continue to spread the same lie today.

Why would they have even considered listening to Boris Johnson?

Once upon a time BoJo was viewed by some in the USA as a Trump-like victory for the UK. No such thing as a “sure thing” anymore.
LOL .. and there never was.

And what does "David Arakhamia" stand to gain out of this "revelation"?

Tell that to Russia. And they were never willing to stop the war over a no NATO pledge.
Keep believing bs.

Putin also assured the world for months that he was not going to invade Ukraine.

As a merchant of death, BoJo is my HeRo.

If WWII was the “good war” that nonetheless killed 400,000 Americans, then Ukraine is the “best of all wars” because it kills no Americans (at least directly) and enriches the American defense industry, and the sanctions enrich our LNG producers.

If you don’t like me join the club, but also have a look in the mirror. Unless you are an avowed peacenik, as an American you are me.

Wouldn't it be more useful to post information about what really happened instead of fiction?

The very person you quote said something entirely different.

"Davyd Arakhamiia, leader of the Servant of the People faction who led the Ukrainian delegation at "peace" talks with the Russians in Belarus and Türkiye in 2022, said that the Russian delegation promised Kyiv peace in exchange for refusing to join NATO, but the Ukrainians did not believe them."

"Arakhamiia stressed: "For some reason, Putin did not publish this document. Why do you think? If he had such a document, he would have made it public." Quote: "They really hoped almost to the last moment that they would force us to sign such an agreement so that we would take neutrality. It was the most important thing for them. They were prepared to end the war if we agreed to, – as Finland once did, – neutrality, and committed that we would not join NATO.

In fact, this was the key point. Everything else was simply rhetoric and political ‘seasoning’ about denazification, the Russian-speaking population and blah-blah-blah."

When asked why Ukraine did not agree to this point, Arakhamia replied that there was no confidence in the Russians, because they were ready to promise anything."

"At the same time, Arakhamiia denied that the Ukrainian delegation was ready to sign such a document, and that Johnson forced Kyiv’s hand.

According to Arakhamiia, the delegation did not even have the legal right to sign anything – this could only theoretically happen at a meeting of Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin.

Arakhamiia added that Western partners knew about the negotiations and saw drafts of documents, but did not attempt to make a decision for Ukraine, but rather gave advice.

"They actually advised us not to go into ephemeral security guarantees [with the Russians – ed.], which could not have been given at that time at all," said Arakhamiia, who headed the negotiating delegation.

So Russia attacked Ukraine and Ukraine was about to surrender but Boris Johnson talked them out of it?

Utterly laughable nonsense!

Boris also was deeply involved in the covid scam.
Remember the times he and others thought the cameras were off and they took off their masks or put them on just before walking in front of the cameras?

Actually the Kremlin, on Putin’s instructions, scuppered the negotiations before Boris’ plane was wheels up.

https://www.brookings.edu/articles/russias-draft-agreements-with-nato-and-the-united-states-intended-for-rejection/

The 2021 ultimatum, which you can read from the official Russian website in a link on that page, required NATO to agree to withdrawal of NATO article 5 protection for all members east of Germany, including any countries that were once inside the Warsaw Pact or USSR.

Anyone with an IQ higher than single digits can see a whole smorgasbord of showstoppers there.

1. Ukraine (a NATO partner not a member), and Russia (also a non member) cannot sign a deal that unilaterally forces NATO to rewrite its constition. Ever. NATO would simply ignore it.

2. The odds on getting all of NATO member countries including the ones it’d leave effectively defenceless against Russian aggression in future, to agree to that demand, is about as high as getting all of the UN security council including Russia and China to sign away their veto rights. As in, it’s sheer fantasy.

3. Russia was dumb enough to not just insist on that. They also demanded NATO members can’t even do agreed training on each others soil without getting Moscow to allow it.

4. While making these demands Russian politicians were going on Russian TV celebrating the slaughter in Mariupol and talking about exterminating Ukraine as an ethnonationalist reality. One Duma deputy said that even if Ukraine agreed to the terms then Russia should inflict between 5 and 15% of its population to collective punishment for opposing Russian takeover. This sentiment was reflected in a press article, “what Russia should do with Ukraine”.

Boris was entirely right to say we (ie no NATO member) would ever sign off Russia’s demands. And as Russia seemed committed to running a reign of terror even if they won their peace deal, the peace deal was for the birds.

Five percent of Ukraine’s population at the time was over 2 million. Fifteen percent was 6 million. Does a figure of six million people being culturally and politically annihilated on the basis of bullshit grievances from a slightly mad history buff butthurt over a a war that had ended some 20 years earlier remind you of anything?

Europe remembers what the Nazis did to the Jews and it remembers the Holodomor. We also remember that Lebensraum and the Final Solution were all signposted alongside a whole mass of bullshit about a global conspiracy involving Jews.

When we all said after World War 2, ‘never again ‘, to that happening in Europe we actually meant it. USA included.
