Indians and Middle Easterners are very caste-oriented. Working with their hands is something only low-born people do. As an engineer, I had the hardest time teaching Subcontinent and Middle Easterners how to test Concrete (slump, air content, temperature, making cylinders). They had the attitude of “why do I have to do this yucky work”? On the other hand, Asians and Africans were very proficient.

The caste system applies to almost every part of life. Those in the higher parts never do the menial manual labor. Ever. If it's not your station to turn on the light switch, you simply don't do it. You (don't) wait for one of the lower guys to do it for you. And you might never even know how that miraculous light turns on by itself.
