I do not understand why, with modern electronics, ranked choice results would require more than a few seconds to calculate, given one knows the “state” or all ballots cast.
The problem for Democrats is the tendency of the left to fracture into splinters. If all Ralph Nadar’s votes in Florida were counted for Al Gore, Gore would have been president in 2001. I am not the only one who noticed. The “cure” is to let splinters have their hissy fits and vote for the most left-wing green candidate, but still have their votes count for the Democrat if the race is close, and their votes can be decisive.
Donald better put this on the front burner.

It actually does only take a few seconds to calculate a rank choice race. But you must collect and count the first round to determine the order of proceeding for the ballot count.
Even in place like Portland, Maine, all of the vote tally lash drives must be delivered to city hall to be loaded on one computer. Then checked to make sure they match the preliminary totals. Once that is done, you just push the button and it spits out the results of the multiple rounds.
There is a chart in this article showing the election result of our latest mayor’s race. [If someone can post it directly I would appreciate it].
BTW, the good guy won this race as the four liberal candidates split the rest of the votes.
You are correct.
Even 20 years ago, computers could have easily handled secure voting.
Using 60 year old technology with “voting machines” is nonsense.
I have know why the RATS back it but I have no idea why the GOP refuses to back a change.
