“You Will Never Defeat Us” – Russia Downplays New Sanctions Package, as Moscow Expected to See Bigger Economic Growth Than US or the EU
Gateway Pundit ^ | Nov. 5, 2023 | Paul Serran

On Sunday, Moscow downplayed the importance of a ‘sweeping’ new round of more than 100 sanctions imposed by the U.S. over the war in Ukraine.

The Kremlin is saying Washington ‘shouldn’t hold its breath’ in pressuring the Kremlin to stop the offensive, further adding that ‘they will never defeat us.’

The IMF projections suggest it may indeed be the case, as Russia is expected to post bigger economic growth than its US and EU foes.

The sanctions target ‘Russian energy production and revenue, the metals and mining sectors, defense procurement, and those involved in supporting Moscow’s war effort’, according to a statement by the U.S. Treasury Department.

Politico reported:

“’Today’s actions demonstrate our further resolve in continuing to disrupt every link of [the] Russian military supply chain, and target outside actors who would seek to support Russia’s war effort’, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in the statement.”

The measures also target ‘seven Russia-based banks, an executive of one of those banks, and one Russia-based financial infrastructure entity’, it said.

But Moscow seemed unimpressed.

“Russia’s Foreign Ministry called the U.S. measures a continuation of an effort aimed at ‘inflicting a strategic defeat on Moscow’. But the Biden administration ‘shouldn’t hold its breath’, ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said, according to the Russian news agency TASS.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the local media ‘sanctions create additional problems. But we have adjusted to the sanctions. We have learned to hedge against sanctions risks’.”

The U.S. Treasury intends to work with international partners ‘to prevent sanctions evasion and export-control violations’.

Reuters reported:

“Western leaders and Ukraine have repeatedly said they seek to defeat Russia on the battlefield, though some Western leaders have denied what President Vladimir Putin says is a Western plot to carve up Russia and steal its natural resources.

Putin is girding the $2.1 trillion economy for a long war and Western hopes of stoking a swift Russian economic crisis with some of the toughest sanctions ever imposed have not been realised. The International Monetary Fund forecasts Russian growth of 2.2% this year – faster than either the United States or the Euro area.”

Biden's sanction war with Russia has been a total failure, one that contributed to inflation in this country and screwed over American citizens.

The idiot zeepers here cheering on the sanctions are delusional.

If these sanctions were so significant, why were they not done in March 2022 ?

24 Million Russians were killed in WWII, within the living memory of many. Does Joe "Dementia" Biden scare them? People who suffered under Hitler and Stalin, are they scared by Dementia Joe?

It is not incompetence. It us deliberate. The sooner one realize that the goal of those now running the United States of America is the destruction of the United States of America and not the saving and preservation of the United States of America. the sooner one will understand what is happening.

Just as the goal of gun control is not crime control but people control. The advocates of gun Control could not care less about the crime rate. They live in their Ivory Towers surrounded by armed security details.

Someone in Washington surely has looked at US natural gas reserves and US natural gas production.

Reserves, 12 trillion cubic meters. Production (consumed or exported) 978 billion cubic meters per year and grows every year.

Yes. 12 years.

Reserves grow, too. But only since shale fracking arrived. Prior to it, reserves were about 6 Tcm and stayed that way for years — because we still used coal for power plants.

So with shale, 12 assessed by USGS. Will we find more? A lot more was found via shale/fracking. There is no law of the universe that says more will be found. It’s not infinite.

Russia is the #1 natgas country in the world with 37 Tcm. And they haven’t even started fracking shale to declare more.

We have chosen the wrong enemy.

Looks like slowly but surely some people may be coming to their senses.

(the DELIBERATE destruction of the United States of America)

I know that’s what you were saying.

This has been true especially since 2008.

I wish it were not true; but it is.

😞☹️

The IMF forecasts that Russia will have real GDP growth of 2.2 percent, which is little different from their forecast for war torn Ukraine at 2 percent, or the US at 2.1 per cent. Broad conclusion cannot properly be drawn from such marginal differences in GDP growth forecasts.

Russia is the #1 natgas country in the world with 37 Tcm. And they haven’t even started fracking shale to declare more.

What is your point?

So what that Russia has lots of natural gas?

Belgium has lots of liqueur-filled candies.

The Germans have lots of brown coal.

The Swiss have lots of cuckoo clocks.

Sweden has lots of particle-board furniture that no one can figure out how to assemble with their stupid "no-text" instructions.

So what?

If embargos are imposed upon the Russians... If their hitherto major customers are no longer buying from them... Then they can just sit on all that natural gas for as long as they like.

If financial sanctions are imposed upon them, then they will have difficulty effecting financial transactions and/or getting paid for the goods they can dump onto secondary markets and sell at cut-rate prices.

The Russian growth figure cited here is obviously a fantasy number.

Russia has lost 300,000 young men in the past 18 months.

300,000 men in their prime productive years have thus been "subtracted" from the Russian economy / workforce.

Many more have otherwise "left" the Russian economy. Russia is suffering an unprecedented "Brain Drain." It's brightest minds are turning their backs on their homeland and seeking a life elsewhere.

We have chosen the wrong enemy.

Incorrect! We didn't "choose" an enemy. The Russians are the aggressors here. Their actions in this war of conquest are totally incommensurate with any possible previous slights they may have perceived against ethnic Russians in border regions.

Russia has more nuclear-tipped missiles pointed at America's heartland than any other hostile force in the world. In contrast, the Ukrainians have done nothing to warrant declaring them an enemy of the United States.

Regards,

“...imposed by the U.S....”

It’s NOT imposed by the U.S. It’s imposed by the illegitimate Biden regime.

The same Quisling Puppet regime that is going to be dealt with soon. Vidkun Quisling was executed by firing squad at Akershus Fortress, Oslo, on 24 October 1945. History repeats.

How do you know that someone is ‘soon’ going to try to assassinate a sitting US President?
