As appealing as that may be to most folks, both the situation and the law could be against that action. First if there was a mob following you it would not be wise to re-enter the fray. Secondly, backing up may be looked upon by the law like taking an insurance shot into a disabled perp. That is something that is addressed by international law - a no-no.
Recall some years back a marine got into trouble for delivering a head shot into a wounded but still moving taliban fighter during a sweep of a building. And more recently a guy foiled a robbery at a restaurant, shooting a robber who then collapsed trying to escape. The restaurant patron then walked over to the perp and popped him again this time fatally.
One and done is usually the best policy ... unless of course one shot does not insure your survival. But emptying your clip may but a bit much also. Use good judgement.
