The horror of Oct 07 was specifically designed to cause a massive Israeli assault on Gaza... to get Israel to throw common sense out the window and in Her rage lash out in exactly the wrong way...
If Israel instead restrains itself and does not raze Gaza to the ground then those who engineered this outrage will be both dispirited and shocked.
There is zero need to level Gaza, all that is required is to annex a small strip at the southern end and take total control of all transit in and out of Gaza. this will destroy Hamas.
The revenge that Israel seeks for Oct 07 would be best levied against those who engineered and financed the outrage.... and if any justice is to be had it will involve a reckoning with those worthies.
At this point all that is required is a Casus Belli of sufficient magnitude to set the game afoot....
