If only Israel had universal gun ownership there would have been far fewer killed. Why is it so difficult given that nearly everyone has to serve in the IDF?
If you live in Judah and Samaria it’s easier to get a gun license, but you have to have been a citizen for three years. M-16s and Uzis are as common as eyeglasses there. Off-duty reservists, policemen and soldiers with guns are commonplace everywhere. In Gush Etzion there was a cop who was a member of our congregation who always kept a cannon of a revolver in his shoulder strap. My guess is it was a .44 magnum. Kindergarten classes usually have one man with a sidearm present. Tour guides are equipped with M-1s.
I just can’t afford one. They are passing “assault rifles” out to citizen teams in border towns, starting earlier today. But Nahariya is not a border town.
