........signs of an unraveling global order. Pax Americana is in an advanced state of decay, if not already fully dead. A fully multipolar world has emerged, and people are belatedly realizing that multipolarity involves quite a bit of chaos.
What was Pax Americana? After the end of the Cold War, deaths from interstate conflicts — countries going to war with each other, imperial conquest, and countries intervening in civil wars — declined dramatically.
Civil wars without substantial foreign intervention are very common, but except for the occasional monster civil war in China or Russia, they don’t tend to kill many people; it’s when countries send their armies to fight beyond their borders that the big waves of destruction usually happen. And for almost 70 years after the end of World War 2, this happened less and less. Historians call this the Long Peace. The lowest level of interstate conflict came from 1989 through 2011, after the collapse of the USSR, when the U.S. became the world’s sole superpower.

America's economy and safety require a world more or less at peace, not one riven with the designs of empire builders and religious fanatics. We either create one, or starve and eventually die in obscurity.
Choose wisely.
A patriot would say "to hell with that. The USA can be and should be almost COMPLETELY self sufficent in everything it needs."
We may need to import oil and some exotic fruit but that is about it.
China practices mercantilist policies, to the detriment of her own people and our manufacturers. They can turn the tables on us any time they like. We should never have let ourselves get into this position.
The North American continent has a relatively small population with ample agricultural land to grow food, forests to provide shelter, oil, gas and coal to provide energy, fiber to make clothing, and resources to provide for our defense.
We’ll be fine so long as we don’t foolishly waste everything trying to dominate the rest of the world.
.
The Japanese say BUILD WHERE YOU SELL. That is why the 3 largest Toyota facilities in the world are in the USA. Look for more of the same. The US is the largest producer of food and fuel in the World and the Largest market. The US is the low cost manufacturer for high end products and for design. Mexico is the low cost manufacturer for low end products and for assembly.
CO-LOCATION. Manufacture, Assemble and Sell in North America. The 21st Century will be the North America Century.
An unstable world is a serious threat to the United States.
The oceans are no longer the defense they used to be. A hostile Mexico and Canada become serious possibilities. Religious fanatics and non-state actors can inflict serious harm - they thrive in an unstable world.
Bears repeating...
We COULD be an exporter of oil, but our high tech manufacturing needs raw material we don't have enough of. For example cobalt and vanadium for alloying steel. Cobalt is also a critical metal for making lithium batteries, and most of the world's supply comes from Africa. Rare earth elements like ytterbium for semiconductors. And that's the tip of the tip of the iceberg. To pay for these we need stable markets in which to sell our produce and manufactured goods.
Pax Romana made for stable markets, more or less free from piracy, throughout the Mediterranean. Then the followers of the Pedophile Prophet over-ran Egypt, and the supply of papyrus to the western regions was cut off. Suddenly there was no paper for record-keeping and communications, and commerce collapsed. The "Dark Ages" were dark to Renaissance historians because almost nothing was written down. Now imagine America without the raw materials to maintain the Internet. "For want of a nail" isn't just a cute fable.
Nope not true AT ALL. "We" is not all, some are richer and some communities have been devistated by offshoring. An America First policy of protectionism would make all richer.
Silcon wafers usedin chip sets are made from..... wait for it....sand. There is no shortage of sand. Just a shortage of Americ First patriots.
Relying solely on domestic raw materials nets you a mid-19th-century economy. Even railroads disappear for want of those elements critical for alloy steels to make the rails out of. Without them, railroads can't carry a tenth of what they do today, and even at that the rails deform so quickly that they have to be replaced in just a few months in high traffic areas.
See what reading books gets you? You won't learn stuff like that watching videos on Utoob.
America is a lucky country. To the north and south it’s bordered by weak neighbors. To the east and west by fish’’.- Otto von Bismark.
Globalist will grasp at straw to keep the economic rape going on.
Do you know how ridiculous that statement is?
Screw Mexico. I want things made in Ohio. Make Mexico great, not possible
The ignorance contained in that statement is just utterly breathtaking.
This is why Republicans will always struggle. The American working class is an after thought. "Well there communities are destoyed because of offshoring, their kids are on drugs but at least they can save a $100 bucks when the buy a TV every 6 years".
Frédéric Bastiat's Candle Maker's Petition shows the absurdity of extreme protectionism.
Protectionism makes sense for national defense, and to prevent foreign cartels from manipulating our economy. Our national government should remove barriers to production and employment, most of which are artificial and harmful, and largely instituted at the urging of politically powerful minorities, like the teachers' unions or UAW. Reagan and Trump both created economic booms by getting the Federal Government the hell out of the way. Almost all the job growth in America in the past decade has been in only two states, Texas and Florida. Make America more like Texas.
