I can understand why the mods would sometimes get exasperated by posts that obviously break the rules.

Absolutely. As a domain owner and moderator I have made this point many times. It is counter productive and could run people away. My observations are that it has been extremely limited for quite awhile though. But can this place actually afford to be too arrogant, heavy handed, or micromanage too strongly? While participation and donations are already dropping like crazy?
Exercising “tact” and simple courtesy in moderation can go a long way towards accomplishing the same end result without the risk of any animosity. I can share that there is already scuttlebutt on the side about the operations and lack of transparency here.
