The average CIA field agent is super compartmentalized and doesn’t know shit outside his/her AO. Not suggesting WW3 may not be on the horizon as globohomo won’t go quietly into the night, but some geezer years out of the agency giving up the ghost doesn’t know anything.
My first reaction also. FBI is organized the same way. Its the absolute nature of all intelligence / information-hoarding organizations, from the KGB, to the Chinese Communist Party, to the CIA and FBI.
