What's going on here? First, the pilot pulls the ejection lever while it appears he/she is at flight altitude on autopilot. Doesn't sound like an emergency to me. Second, why didn't the pilot's wingman follow the pilotless plane? While the Marines lost three ospreys in Australia recently, it doesn't explain why they needed to do a Marine Corps-wide two-day stand-down of all their aircraft. Did the pilot see something ahead of him/her that caused him/her to go into immediate ejection mode?

A safety down day is a typical, almost obligatory, response to an accident/incident that occurs during peace time.

I think you would see a similar response in the other services.

Safety down-days were usually reserved for known or suspected system-wide faults in maintenance or parts quality back in my MCAS Tustin days. OE mishaps would see one or more getting kicked down the road, so to speak..
