Well, makes sense. The data on driverless vehicles indicates they have surpassed people in their safety record already. And there are major cost savings to be had with driverless trucks. So of course California does the stupid thing and bans them, ceding yet another area to other states for technological leadership. By the time they have them driverless trucks will be commonplace everywhere else.

I would challenge that in my experience, there is just cost shift to other areas. Don’t focus on just one factor, look at the system.
