Backing Down: DeSantis Official Says ‘Strong Second’ is Ok In Iowa
The National Pulse ^ | September 10, 2023

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is facing a significant gap in both national and Iowa polls compared to former President Donald Trump, according to a campaign official. DeSantis had hoped to use Iowa as a launchpad for his campaign but has fallen behind Trump in the state. A recent poll found that 51 percent of likely GOP caucus-goers in Iowa chose Trump as their top choice, while DeSantis trailed at just 14 percent.

The two men appeared at the Cy-Hawk game on Saturday, with Trump receiving massive cheers alongside a smattering of jeers, while DeSantis scarcely attracted an audience beyond the staffers paid to accompany him.

“We believe it’s already a two-person race,” a top DeSantis campaign staffer told POLITICO this week. “But the reality is, on the ballot there are other choices, and our goal is to get this down to a two-person race on the ballot, especially as we head into South Carolina and beyond into March… a strong second-place [in Iowa] gives us an opportunity to go in[to] New Hampshire and show success.”

The Never Back Down Super PAC claims to have received commitments from over 12,000 Iowans to caucus for DeSantis and has already spent $5.5 million on TV ads. They plan to allocate nearly $30 million for ads, mailers, and direct voter contact in Iowa and New Hampshire before Thanksgiving.

DeSantis better have a rental or a RV in Iowa. If he loses the Iowa Caucus he’s toast.

Does a strong second preclude 3rd place behind *spit* Pence?

Haha that face you make when you wish you hadn’t listened to your social climbing, ambitious wife when she teamed up with Paul Ryan and the Bushes to talk you into back-stabbing President Trump. Four years wouldn’t have been long to wait, fulfilling your Gov obligations at the same time, but, no....thought you could do it, but you blew it. Hosta la vista....maybe stay home and get those ill-behaved kids in line. You not only screwed up 2024, you can kiss 2028 goodbye as well.

In 2007, Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) moved his family to Iowa and even enrolled a child in school while campaigning for Iowa caucuses almost full time. Didn’t help.

Chris Dodd of CT.....isn’t he the senator who, along with fat Ted Kennedy, made a “waitress sandwich?”

It is DeSantis

No I’m not a paid supporter

Covid lockdowns was a disaster for people

Covid lockdowns contributed to this inflation we are now experiencing

Covid may also contribute to the recession we are headed towards

Florida did well during the covid pandemic, Ron handled it exceptionally! Just that alone he has my 110% support

People don’t see that ? I just don’t understand the hatred

Trump needs to earn the nomination like the other candidates, if he wins then so be it. He doesn’t deserve to be given the nomination. I moved in from trump. I don’t believe him.

"You not only screwed up 2024, you can kiss 2028 goodbye as well."

I certainly would never vote for him. The day he announced his run for President, along with his manipulation of the State Law that required him to resign to run for another office, told me exactly who Ron DeSantis is. He's nothing but a self-serving, opportunist prig. Anyone, no matter what political party you belong to, that uses their party's majority in the State Legislature to benefit their future, both politically and financially, should be tossed to the road. Charlie Crist did the same thing as Governor...changed the Resign to Run law, so he wouldn't have to resign if McCain picked him as his VP running mate. It wasn't until Rick Scott became Governor, that he changed the law back to its original state, and it remained that way until DeSantis decided he was going to run against President Trump. Crash and burn Ron...crash and burn!!

Oh Judy!! Don't you know? You're not allowed to say anything here that upsets the DeSantis droolers.

Yep, and Dodd and Barney Frank were responsible for the subprime mortgage crisis.

Desantis is a smart man.
He can win. I’m very confident as he is smart
This is why I fully support Ron DeSantis!!
His words are action !!! He is tough like trump and does what he says !!
He will be tough on the border
He is a smart man
I am happy desantis is running
I like his strong statement of using force at the border
He has done a fantastic job in Florida as governor and he will do a fantastic job as president, I think he is the best suited to win the presidency over any democratic they throw in the ring
He is a strong smart person.
Desantis is a smart man

forYourChildrenVote4Bush was zotted.

"Covid lockdowns contributed to this inflation we are now experiencing"

BS. Bidenomics is the reason we are where we are. He continued the lockdown and made everything worse, and now wants to bring it all back again, because it's election time. The international company my son works for had the best years financially during the lockdown to the point they were able to give every one of their employees larger bonuses than normal.
