Most energy drinks do not even have as much caffeine as coffee.
The problem is not the caffeine, it’s the sugar – which is the same as in any other soda, and actually often lower.
You should have to be 18 to buy sugary drinks.
In fact, sugary drinks should have a label on them saying they lead to death.
They’re a lot more dangerous than cigarettes, I can tell you that. It’s well established.
Caffeine is not even a problem. This is dumb.
Remember: these same people give amphetamine to kids. If you get generic Adderall, the bottle literally just says “amphetamine.” It’s the only ingredient.
Reuters:
Pediatricians and parents are calling for the U.S. to treat new high-caffeine energy drinks like alcohol and cigarettes and ban their sale to minors as a single serving can contain as much caffeine as six Coca-Colas.
Prime Energy, which launched this year, has 200 mg of caffeine within its 350 ml can — exceeding permissible caffeine levels in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Rival products like Anheuser Busch InBev-backed (ABI.BR) Ghost energy drinks and Kim Kardashian’s “Kimade” energy drink also have 200 mg of caffeine. Competitor Monster Energy (MNST.O) contains 150 mg of caffeine.
These are the same people who tell you there are “proven safe doses” of plastic, PFAS, and lead.
But hey – who knows? No one knows anything anymore. I don’t know.
Here’s a useful chart:
If you are drinking and energy drink, you might as well be drinking kerosene.
I’m OK with family and organizational bans, not a government ban though.
I run a weeklong youth camp every summer and go through a lot of coffee. For the adults only. I don’t want the kids all wired.
Drink water.
Kooky liberal style scaremongering. We’ve all been drinking Coke and Pepsi and Dr Pepper for over a hundred years, since we were babies. Some of us live to be 100. We have nut jobs that think they know everything that is best for everyone at FR too. *sigh*
Pfft. I used to drink Jolt Cola in High School. The ORIGINAL energy drink.
What is wrong with people? Have they lost their ability to reason?
This is not about caffeine...or sugar. It's about control.
That's what Marxists do. They establish control one little piece at a time until, like Gulliver, the people are under complete control.
As a child you can have more of a rapport with your teacher than your parents and keep your ideas from your parents about what sex you are. Determine for yourself to have your physical self altered, affectively changing your ‘sex’ changed via drugs and surgery but you cannot decide for yourself whether to drink energy drinks. That is above you. The government will make those decisions.
“All the sugar and twice the caffeine”
I miss the days when teens were allowed to learn when they suffered hang-overs that felt like they would never end or hunched over a toilet bowls. Lessons were learned well back then.
You mean like from the toilet?
The responsibility for overseeing what children eat and drink lies with their parents. Most parents themselves make poor choices in this area, as is shown by how overweight America is. Yet it remains their job. And nothing positive will happen unless the public demands quality food and stops purchasing garbage. But at the end of the day, it is a matter of personal choice, not the job of government. I do favor more extensive labeling on food & drink packaging, especially as concerns sourcing, GMO etc.
“All I wanted was a Pepsi...Just one Pepsi”
First they came for...
Oh hell, nevermind.
The government wants to cut their peepees off and suck the fat out of their breasts but doesn’t want them to have sugar.
indeed!
I’m willing to bet that a good 20% of the population would think this is a great idea, particularly current college students.
That was the worst part of going to summer camp, that soda was banned. All the kids would be going through sugar withdrawals the first few days.
One year I smuggled in a suitcase full of candy and turned a profit selling it to the junkies at double the “street price”.
Me too- had to drink it to keep up with my job- would go,through almost a 6 pack on the job
