A bullet that struck two women at a Chicago White Sox game on Friday evening may have landed inside the ballpark after being fired about a mile away.
That’s the current line of thinking among Chicago cops tasked with investigating the incident, which unfolded a little before 7:30 p.m. as the Sox were blistered by the Oakland Athletics.
“What started out as a teacher celebration of the first week of school escalated quickly,” a woman seated near injured fans wrote in a now-deleted Facebook post.
The victims, a 42-year-old woman and a 26-year-old woman, were struck as they sat in the bleachers near left center field. Police said the older woman was in fair condition at University of Chicago Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her leg. The other woman declined medical attention for a graze wound to her abdomen.
There were no reports of gunfire within the ballpark, and CPD said there was never an active threat. So, police are exploring the possibility that the bullet plunged into the ballpark from above.
In a statement tweeted after 1 a.m. Saturday, the team said the incident “did not involve an altercation of any kind.”
A CPD ShotSpotter gunfire detector alerted to nine rounds fired in the 300 block of West 42nd Place at 7:22 p.m., according to police. That’s about a mile due south of the ballpark.
“I am AMAZED mo one got evacuated, nobody knew NOTHING…NOTHING! Absurd. They quickly cleared my section … but never notified anyone of anything the game just went on.”
About 22,000 people endured the game in anticipation of a post-contest concert by 90s musical acts Vanilla Ice, Tone Loc, and Rob Base. Sox officials canceled the show hours after the game, citing “technical issues” posted on the stadium’s big screen.

RE: Where were you residing at the time?
Trumbull at W. Edsel Ford Service Drive.
Extremely low rent. A little outside campus of Wayne State University.
My A&P (only market for maybe 2 miles) was on national news as a burned out husk with electrical cables hanging from the ceiling and all the interior totally charred after a firebombing.
About two minutes walk away the rock group MC5 musician was arrested by the FBI for having a telescope on the roof, which he used to look at the planets. Feds accused him of spotting police locations to tell the Black Panthers. Laughably absurd.
National Guard guy with a rifle at 45 degree angle rode on the running board of our mail truck for guys like me to deliver campus mail. “Watch for snipers above you. I am serious. Keep watching as you deliver.”
A 30-06 bullet can travel over 3 miles when fired at a 45 degree angle. When shot straight up they can reach over 300 feet per second by the time that they return to earth. Close to a third of people struck by celebratory gun fire die compared to 6% to 7% of those killed by bullets being fired at them. This is because most victims of celebratory fire get hit in the top of the head.
Even further if 30 degrees.
I used to go to Comiskey when I was a kid. So much has changed.
That is amazing.
And really blew me away.Thank you for those stories.
I was in grade school in Lincoln Park.
On Fort Park boulevard. Near St Henry’s church and school, which I attended. Both are shut down now.
This is what a collapsing nation looks like.
It’s Trump or the END.
Thought this sounded familiar... Chicago, two years ago.
Killed by a stray bullet while riding a train.
Thanks. A shame Detroit died out. I have 100% boycotted since around 1975. Only sorry to miss concerts. That’s it.
Best to you.

My team, the St. Louis Cardinals are having a terrible season but frequently nearly double that number at home games.
The White Sox are not fan friendly in addition to losing so often.
During the construction of the current stadium, a stray bullet was found embedded in one of the outfield seats. The team was not yet playing games at the facility. In reaction to what had happened, the billboards ringing the outfield were rebuilt using solid steel so as to help shield the outfield spectators to a significant degree. This may have prevented stray bullets from entering the stadium until now.
The original Comiskey Park opened in 1910. The home plate entrance faced east and it was a solid brick building.
In order to lay the ground for extorting a new stadium from the taxpayers, Jerry Reinsdorf allowed the old ballpark to deteriorate by neglecting routine maintenance. Afterwards, he complained that the stadium was disintegrating and had become irreparable.
When the new stadium, paid for by the taxpayers, was built, the position of the diamond was reversed and left and center field faced east. A large complex of high rise public housing buildings were to the east of the stadium and the interstate expressway.
My bet is that the bullet was fired into the air and the woman was struck by a falling bullet.
Mayor Brandon Johnson is an incompetent leftist buffoon.
He also proposed to eliminate the shot spotter technology because it was a tool that helped the police do their jobs. To Johnson this was racist technology.
I stand corrected. The following diagram is accurate only when in a vacuum for small arms...
This book on "Fire Control Fundamentals" has interesting discussions for larger guns.
The incoming barrage of gunfire from 42nd Place is going to be EPIC now that the gangbangers and everyone else know where to fire from.
CTA trains in Shitcago don't have FRA Part 223 Glazing (bulletproof) ... Metra trains coming in from the suburbs of Shitcago do. And have for decades already.
Always hard to tell from a photo (for me..) that looks like a 9mm or .45acp. At leats to me.
Word on the street is Leroy Brown was the shooter and the incident was about a girl name Doris.
Amazing! Is there armor in the sheet metal as well? Usually that won’t stop a bullet either.
