Its true in part.

Plantation agriculture in Hawaii was introduced by the white man. That led to the clearing of large regions of native vegetation, and its replacement by cash crops like pineapple and sugarcane.

In part this all was made possible by the collapse of the native population, mainly because of lack of resistance to old-world diseases, plus an extreme vulnerability to alcohol. The native survivors thus largely abandoned the land.

When plantation agriculture became uneconomic these cultivated lands were effectively abandoned to become grassland.

There indeed is some truth, the monarchy was illegally overthrown. Hawaii should have never been a State, it should have been more like The Philippines, where we would have still had strong military presence there in the Pacific.

And Democratic Party Rule is much to blame as well.

True. There were no forest fires anywhere in the world before white colonialism.

And no hunger, poverty, disease, inequality, exploitation, murder, rape, or any other bad things. All bad things were invented by white people because we were so jealous of black Egyptians' space program.

The pyramids were originally flight capable. Everyone knows that.

“Never let a crisis go to waste.”

We’re doing just that. Get rid of statehood and just say the native Hawaiians are entitled to have the final say. They were there first. Even Captain Cook admitted it.

They’ve locked into western religion. No more sacrificing to the gods or cannibalism. We could still have influence just a minimum of power. Win win.

You are right.

The white man also introduced non-native vegetation — the highly combustible non-native and invasive grasses and the even more combustible non-native pine trees that squeezed out the native tropical flora.

It was a tropical paradise until Captain Cook arrived. It’s been downhill ever since.

Well took long enough! And I guess there was never any volcanic activity that messed things up before colonialism.

Can you point out what is incorrect in buwaya’s post in #2?

Hawaii had borders, language and culture. They were a nation in every sense of the word.

Its truth. There was no plantation agriculture there before the white man. Maui and other islands afterwards became predominantly fields of sugarcane and pineapple.

The big mistake was in letting the land be abandoned.

I’m not an expert on Hawaii, but long ago I heard that the island’s economy was dominated by Japanese immigrants, to a lesser extent by Chinese. That whites and native Hawaiians were second class citizens.

When I went to elementary school in Hawaii, almost all my teachers were Japanese heritage.

Question: Would we have annexed Hawaii if we had chosen to ignore the lying yellow journalists like Joseph Pulitzer that ginned up support to go to war against Spain? Without the use of Pearl Harbor as a base in that war it might have been at least more decades before we decided took over Hawaii.

But without a population. There were only @30,000 native Hawaiians left by 1898. They were outnumbered by more than 3:1 by foreigners by that time, mostly laborers brought in to work the plantations.

Legal or not, the overthrow of the native kingdom was inevitable.

Yes the fields burned, so did lots of other natural foliage.

This fire had nothing to do with “the evil white man and colonization”.

If anything if the plantations were still working this wouldn’t have happened.

You can point at decades of shoddy, Democrat, land maintenance policies - no fire breaks.

You can point at decades of shoddy, Democrat, infrastructure maintenance with horrible fire alarms and a fire department that was Ill equipped.

You can point at decades of socialist thought which refused to restore those lands (even though they’re sacred? Funny that)

But no no - let’s just repeat the communist lie that this is all the fault of the white man and colonization.

It’s BS.
