A few of these criminals are simply going to disappear, because some of these businesses are still owned by the mafia.
That store owner might have an idea for any prosecutor getting all cutesy with filing charged. Glad the thief got it all.

The Tweet that showed the video says, NYC. But it doesn’t matter, shop owners are taking matters in their own hands and it’s glorious to watch. My only concern is if the thief is armed, there might be casualties.
I can’t see what kind of stick that Sikh store-owner had, but if it were a Louisville Slugger, he could have smashed the bones in the thug’s legs with just a couple swings.

He was pretty smug before that ass-whuppin’. Not so smug now, I imagine.
In saner days, that crook would be behind bars and the store owner would be commended for his civic duty.
I didn’t notice until the 2nd viewing that he was BEHIND the counter.
Funny thing is at the end of the vid you see plastic pieces come out of the ROBBER’s (not shoplifter’s) pocket.
His ‘gun’ was plastic.

The looter took something out of his pocket a couple times.
I feared for my life. It looked like he was reaching for his gun.
I am very sane then because that is my ideal outcome.
However, in some cases, the OT laws about recompense for theft would be a better solution for petty theft, especially for kids and first time offenders.
Make it hurt them financially instead of just throwing their butts in jail. But for serial thieves, jail it is.
I think the store owners showed great restraint.
1. No blows to the face or head.
2. No blows to the groin.
3. Did not use the stick in a thrusting manner.
4. In other, longer, versions of the video the perp pulls something from his pocket which looks a lot like a weapon before he puts it back. At that point the store owners are justified in considering him armed.
