Pence flipped on Trump to get out of a documents charge. One of the counts addresses the allegation deals with count and certification. The final act of accepting the electors rests with the VP. If Trump said anything to Pence about not certifying the election Smith will use Pence to leverage the count.

What happened and who did it? I've been reading that something happened on January 3 that took Pence out of the loop to take objections from the floor on January 6. The VP is supposed to field objections, and if a Representative and a Senator lodge the objection, they go into a 2 hour debate. Once the "plansurrection" started, it seems the House (led by Pelosi?) took action to go into "emergency rules" that took Pence out of the role of fielding objections, and when they reconvened from the interruption, morphed him into a sniveling, weak, ministerial functionary. Thoughts?

To be fair, there was no way any of those election results were going to change. For one thing, Congress (or the VP acting as President of the Senate) has no business refusing to accept the certified election results from any state that only sent one slate of electors.

Secondly … the inauguration date is established in the Constitution. Delaying the January 6th proceedings would have bought Congress two freaking weeks — which wouldn’t have been sufficient time for most states to even open the mail sent to them by Congress.

This is not true. The. VP’s job is to open the sealed envelopes sent by each state with its certified results. That’s it.
