It was a long time ago, FRiend. 1956 to be exact.
Reminds me of my marriage. A simple church ceremony, nothing lavish. Lasted 48 years till she passed away three years ago.
Compare it with my wife’s niece marrying off her daughter. A lavish blow out! Spent more money than I can even comprehend! Great marriage send off!
It didn’t last 8 years.
The biggest waste is $5.00 for a cup of coffee filled with corn syrup.
My wife and I were going to the courthouse and her Mom and mine said no will do the wedding and we said we want it small.
My wife’s grandma said I’ll buy you a wedding dress and rather than spend several hundred of thousands of dollars she picked one from the JC Penny catalog for $400. We printed out invitations and did word of mouth in churches to family and friends. We had pizza for the rehearsal dinner and my wife paid $100 for the cake. I was wearing an old suit and my Mom rented a basic black tux for me and my brother the best man for $100. The ushers wore their suits or shirt and tie, we had two and she had one bridesmaid who wore a pink dress. So for less than $800 we got married and spent two days on our honeymoon in the nearest big city over thirty years ago.
Personally, I spent $15 on a marriage license, and that was all. After the "service" at city hall, we went home and were surprised to see a couple family members there with a cake for us.
Our 40th anniversary is next week.
Daughter’s wedding cost us about $6K 6 years ago. Nice waterside venue with plenty of catered food, but no frills. Expensive weddings are an abomination, unless the bride’s parents can afford to blow that kind of money. We sure couldn’t.
