Actually, Occam's Razor says the alternative that relies on the fewest assumptions is the most likely one.

So what are the assumptions?

For Hunter:

1. He did it before, so he'll do it again.
2. He relapsed and was desperate for a fix.
3. He carries small amounts of cocaine with him wherever he goes, including ad hoc visits to the White House.
4. Out of desperation for a fix, he snuck through a "heavily trafficked" hallway and into the West Wing Library to do his hit instead of in the privacy of the residence.
5. He then hid the dime bag there instead of taking it back home with him for later (where he would likely have more stashed away).

Assumptions for a White House staffer:

1. A staffer needs an occasional cocaine fix for an energy boost to handle the stress of the West Wing.
2. The staffer snuck a dime bag of cocaine into the White House and hid it in the West Wing Library where staffers have a frequent excuse to be.
3. The staffer occasionally goes into the Library and takes a quick hit of cocaine before returning to his/her desk.

Sorry for reviving a stale thread, but I was cogitating on it for the past few days.

If this were a game of Cluedo, I would be looking at who was the person who put the Cocaine in the Library. A deductive review of the characters in the West Wing would then ensue.

Deductive reasoning would suggest that the culprit was not a top White House staffer, because they would be too high for someone above them to sweep this all away. Besides, the are too high profile to be a coke addict. It has to be someone lower in the ranks, but still crucial to the operations of the Oval Office. It would then be someone in the top ranks who had the power to protect the lower-level culprit.

I looked at the White House Chief of Staff, Jeff Zients. Zients has a pretty distinguished career that would have quickly exposed a cocaine addiction, so I don't think it's him. However, I learned something new: he has THREE Deputy Chiefs of Staff: Bruce Reed, Natalie Quillian, and Jen O'Malley Dillon. So I looked into each of them.

Bruce Reed has an impressive career:

• Chief of Staff to Vice-President Biden
• CEO of the Democrat Leadership Council (DLC)
• Chief Speechwriter for Al Gore
• Policy Director of the DLC and Governor Bill Clinton

Natalie Quillian has a slightly less distinguished career:

• The White House Deputy Coronavirus Response Coordinator for Biden
• The senior advisor to Denis McDonough, the White House Chief of Staff during the Obama administration

And then there is Jen O'Malley Dillon:

• Biden's 2020 replacement campaign manager post-COVID-19 (March 2020)
• Beto O'Rourke's 2020 presidential campaign manager
• Barack Obama's Presidential campaign battleground states director
• Associate Director of Personnel for Obama's transition team
• Executive Director of the Democratic National Committee under Tim Kaine
• John Edwards' Presidential campaign manager
• Campaign Field Organizer/Director for Al Gore (TN), Tim Johnson (SD) and Mary Landrieu (LA).

If there is a more likely candidate to need to smuggle cocaine into the Library to handle the stress in Cluedo, it would be the person who worked in the campaigns or offices of John Edwards, Beto O'Rourke, Al Gore, Tim Johnson, Tim Kaine, and Barack Obama, not the most ethical people in the Democrat party.

If there is a more likely position in the White House to require covering up the smuggling of cocaine, it would be the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President of the United States.

But this is just a game of Cluedo, so I could very well be wrong.
