Funniest thing I read all day. We weren't fighting in Vietnam either until suddenly things were going so badly that we rushed in 500,000 troops. That's when it really went south.
What do Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and Ukraine have in common. We had no idea what victory would look like not one that was achievable with the means that we were willing to put in?
Great book for warmongers:
It's a pretty good book about how not to get into a war you are going to lose by not winning it, which is our sad history for a long time.
You just made two posts that made no sense,
We aren’t fighting in Ukraine, Russia is, so make your war comparisons about them, we aren’t in a war.
The goofball colonel tries to give the impression we are trying to “destroy Russia” by assisting Ukraine, how could Russia having to give up on the invasion of Ukraine “destroy Russia”?
“..We had no idea what victory would look like..”
A very common, and basic, mistake in all projects. In formal Project Management, your very first, and most important, step is “Define the Project: Time, Money, Goal.”
Then every decision can be weighed, “Which of these 3 does it help?” If it doesn’t, don’t do it, period.
Without Project Definition, perojects always go sideways, take way too long, cost way more than they should. Wars are just another project.
