Designed to support the U.S. Army Captains Career Course, “Understanding Combined Arms Warfare” defines and outlines the important aspects of modern combined arms operations. This is not a complete history of combined arms warfare. It is intended to highlight the most important aspects of the subject.

The beginning of the documentary establishes a common understanding of combined arms warfare by discussing doctrinal and equipment developments in World War I. The second part compares the development of French and German Army mechanization during the interwar period and describes how each country fared during the Battle of France in 1940. The film concludes by showing how the United States applied combined arms operations in the European Theater in World War II.

[ Russians Set Record Aircraft Losses Due to Mutiny | Russian Civil War Day 2 ]

••Day 486: Jun 24

The Wagner rebellion continued, and Prigozhin gradually consolidated control over the captured territories.

If yesterday, Wagner forces just crossed the border of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in multiple places and took control over the military objects in the Rostov region, then today, the Wagner forces reached the doorstep of Moscow.

The rebellion started and developed so rapidly that many people seriously consider whether it is just a big show to distract the Ukrainians from their counteroffensive operation.

However, today the Head of Ukrainian Intelligence, Budanov, confirmed that the internal Russian armed conflict is real and that removing the Russian Ministry of Defense is a matter of survival for Prigozhin.

Today, Prigozhin released a video where he showed the captured headquarters of the Southern Military District.

He effectively took captive the Russian commanders, who were not allowed to leave, and said that he would set everyone free only in exchange for Shoigu and Gerasimov.

In order to increase the leverage, Prigozhin moved further and also captured the airfield and several villages east of the city, and started reinforcing the flanks while moving towards Moscow.

Putin gave a speech to address the situation, and despite the fact that Prigozhin claimed to be acting in the best Putin’s interests, Putin did not support Prigozhin’s actions.

Putin called it a stab in the back that threatened to break Russia just like it happened in 1917, which is why he ordered all special detachments to suppress the rebellion.

He gave the Wagner soldiers the last chance to surrender and said that whoever remains will answer before the nation.

Shortly, Russian forces started using their assault helicopters and fighter jets to bomb Wagner columns.

Prigozhin said that Russian Air Force disregarded the fact that there were more civilian cars than Wagner cars and that the pilots had terrible accuracy because everyone who could shoot was already on the front.

Still, some bombs managed to hit the trucks on the road.

One helicopter also blew up an oil depot in the Voroniezh region, which by that time was also captured by the Wagner forces.

Wagner forces responded reciprocally and started shooting down Russian aviation.

The widely circulated footage confirms that Wagner forces managed to shoot down multiple aerial objects, including 1 assault helicopter Ka-52, 1 multi-purpose helicopter Mi-8, 3 Electric Warfare helicopters, 1 transport helicopter, and 1 aerial command point plane IL-18.

Soon, Russian forces started bombing the occupied military headquarters in Rostov.

Wagner forces responded by reinforcing air defense in the region and asking the civilians to evacuate from the area.

Russian forces also tried to block the roads with trucks to complicate the movement of the Wagner forces, however, Wagners just moved them to the side of the road.

Sometimes, Russian soldiers on the block posts did not welcome Wagner forces warmly, and there were violent confrontations.

In general, Russian forces failed to provide reasonable resistance, and Wagner forces developed a presence not only in the Rostov and Voronezh regions but also Kursk, Oriol, Lipetsk, Tambov, and Tula regions, reaching the doorstep of the Moscow region.

Here the situation became more complicated as the Russians blocked all bridges.

Simultaneously, the Chechen units entered the Rostov region to strike Wagner’s flanks.

The conflict was about to escalate, and after putting all cards on the table, the parties decided to try to negotiate.

The President of Belarus, Lukashenko, volunteered to mediate the negotiation, in part because he has been a close friend of both Putin and Prigozhin for more than 20 years.

Suddenly, Prigozhin announced that he was withdrawing.

Russian officials stated that the charges on Prigozhin and participating Wagner soldiers were dropped.

It looks like the Russian Ministry of Defense evaluated the situation and understood that they had no chance and fulfilled all of Prigozhin’s demands, more precisely, the removal of Shoigu and Gerasimov.

Even though Russian officials stated that no changed to the structure of the Ministry of Defense were discussed during the negotiation process, no one in the media space believes that.

It is expected that in order to avoid the escalation, Putin will remove the highest officials in the Russian Ministry of Defense over the course of around 2 months.

Even though the turmoil inside the Russian Ministry of Defense is not explicit, it is happening, and the chaos inside the Russian War Machine creates very favorable conditions for the Ukrainians.

Prigozhin managed to succeed in this endeavor primarily because it was unexpected.

Reflects great disappointment with Prigozhin. And no one will support him militarily in the future.

Shows image of Lukashenko holding baby Putin. Putin and Russian Government are weak. Shows that 300 armored vehicles and 4,000 men are enough to take power in Russia.

Another reason that Prigozhin may have stopped his march to Moscow is no Russian oligarch openly supported him. [ Perhaps this was a sign that there would be no more money to continue to support Prigozhin and pay the troops after July? ]

Shoigu, Gerasimov together with Putin are stupid crazy fools who may do something even more stupid that just destroying the Nova Kakhovka Dam. See Below.

As for military gains by Russia - these days are past, especially with the disbanding of the Wagners, which forces will no longer fight in Ukraine.

Zelensky:
He reiterated today the warning below:

He addressed world leaders [ yesterday ] with a warning that Russia is preparing to undermine [ destroy ] the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.

“Our intelligence received information that Russia is considering a scenario of a terrorist attack at the ZNPP with a release of radiation.

They have prepared everything for this.

Unfortunately, I have repeatedly had occasion to remind that radiation does not know state borders, and who it hits, is determined only by the direction of the wind.

We pass on all available information to our partners, all evidence - Europe, America, China, Brazil, India, Africa, the Arab world - all countries and international organizations should know this.

This time it should not be like with Kakhovskaya [ Nova Kakhovka ]. The world has been warned.”

Russian officials said everything is going according to the Plan & Prigozhin agrees.

Methinks Prigozhin was channeling Spartacus. Thinking the peasants would rally to him. The Russian Army as well. Neither happened. He came to the realization that traveling 700Km through Indian Territory was foolhardy. Suicidal even. Putin controlled the skies.

Some similar events in history can be drawn on. Charles de Gaul of France warned a unit of the Foreign Legion to stand down or he would bomb the scat out of them. They were marching on the Palace of Versailles. They kept marching until they looked up and saw the planes. They returned to barracks...

Medvedchuk was involved in Prigozhin’s rebellion

The column of wagners ate free & poured fuel at Putin’s godfather’s gas stations while moving to Moscow.

Prigo is not alone. Many Russians want the fall of the Kremlin regime. This is the beginning of the end of the RF.

Tatiana Stanovaya @Stanovaya 5h

“Below is a brief description of Prigozhin’s mutiny and the factors that contributed to its outcome. We, as observers, initially missed important details due to the scarcity of information and lack of time for in-depth analysis. Here’s the perspective that currently seems most plausible:

1️⃣ Prigozhin’s rebellion wasn’t a bid for power or an attempt to overtake the Kremlin. It arose from a sense of desperation; Prigozhin was forced out of Ukraine and found himself unable to sustain Wagner the way he did before, while the state machinery was turning against him. To top it off, Putin was ignoring him and publicly supporting his most dangerous adversaries.

2️⃣ Prigozhin’s objective was to draw Putin’s attention and to impose a discussion about conditions to preserve his activities - a defined role, security, and funding. These weren’t demands for a governmental overthrow; they were a desperate bid to save the enterprise, hoping that Prigozhin’s merits in taking Bakhmut (that’s why he needed it!) would be taken into account and the concerns would catch Putin’s serious attention. Now it appears that these merits helped Prigozhin to get out of this crisis alive, but without a political future in Russia (at least while Putin is in power).

3️⃣ Prigozhin was caught off-guard by Putin’s reaction and found himself unprepared to assume the role of a revolutionary. He also wasn’t prepared for the fact that Wagner was about to reach Moscow where his only option remained - to “take the Kremlin” - an action that would inevitably result in him and his fighters being eradicated.

4️⃣ Those in the elites who were able reached out to Prigozhin with offers to surrender. This likely added to his sense of impending doom. However, I don’t believe any high-level negotiations took place. Lukashenko presented Prigozhin with a Putin-endorsed offer to retreat on the condition that Prigozhin would leave Russia and Wagner would be dissolved.

5️⃣ I don’t think Prigozhin was in a position to make demands (such as the resignation of Shoigu or Gerasimov - something many observers expect today. If that happens, it will be due to another reason.) After Putin’s address in the morning of June 24th, Prigozhin’s primary concern was to find an off-ramp. The situation would have led to inevitable death in merely a few hours. It is possible that Putin has promised him safety on the condition that Prigozhin remains quietly in Belarus.

I stand by my previous assertion that Putin and the state have been dealt a severe blow (which will have significant repercussions for the regime). However, I want to emphasize that image has always been a secondary concern for Putin. Setting optics aside, Putin objectively resolved the Wagner and Prigozhin problem by dissolving the former and expelling the latter. The situation would have been far worse if it had culminated in a bloody mess in the outskirts of Moscow.

And no, Putin doesn’t need Wagner or Prigozhin. He can manage with his own forces. He’s now certainly convinced of that.”

Rob Lee @RALee85 21h

Some early thoughts:
-More questions than answers
-Short-term compromise ≠ long-term solution
-This was a mutiny not a coup
-Too soon to say Putin will fall anytime soon
-Not clear this will affect Ukraine’s offensive
-The previous Kremlin-Wagner relationship is over...

-Given Wagner’s presence overseas, the greatest effects from this event may be felt in MENA/Africa
