I think, once communism is brought down, China will be on an upswing. When it comes to tyrannical government, all you can really do is close the tent door and wait for its end.
I think it’s a good strategy, if you are going to stay in China to seek the villages and not stay in the city. Learn to be self-sufficient.

I will have to find a competent English speaking doctor, but Shaoxing is probably where we will land. In the meantime, just do our best to make it thru the next 5-10 in Washington State.
Lots of hills and lakes in that area, city is small by Chinese standards, with good access to Shanghai. Easy to drive there. Bullet train service. Need to become more fluent in Chinese, will never learn Shanghai dialect..
