Who is John Galt? Ayn Rand nailed this in "Atlas Shrugged". The original title was "The Strike". It was a "strike" of the "competent and productive" against the social state where money/influence rules over merit. The work is timeless and easily refitted to the current day. The advent of ESG/CEI at corporate level and DEI in HR herald the replacement of meritocracy with idiocracy. The only real comfort is watching the marketplace punish the "woke" by making them "broke". Bud Light and Target are two of the more extreme examples.

I came to work at my current place of business at age 35. I've been there almost 32 years now. One of the "gray beards" still actively doing productive work. I've been recruited to multiple projects to fill a gap in skills that couldn't be hired off the street. I'm still doing that. At some point I will choose to retire. The talent seekers in HR will have to find another. For the current time, it is nice to have productive work.

I'm comfortable with my current work. At the rate the US gov is screwing up, I expect my exit from the workforce will be a consequence of an insolvent government that can't pay my employer for my services. I won't have to initiate the retirement process. It will be a matter of "overcome by events".
