Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine
ORYX ^ | Since February 24, 2022 and daily | ORYX

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Small arms, ATGMs, MANPADS, loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles, trailers and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it is not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

“Ukraine’s counter-offensive appears to have begun”

“For months a guessing game has played out in military circles worldwide: where and when would Ukraine conduct its counter-offensive? Most expected it to come through Zaporizhia province, in the south of the country, perhaps directed at the city of Melitopol, with the aim of cutting the “land bridge” seized by Russian troops at the start of the war that connects occupied Crimea with Russia itself. Western officials had expected the offensive to begin two weeks ago, and some were getting impatient.

On June 4th—two days before the anniversary of D-Day, the start of the liberation of Europe from the Nazis—Ukrainian forces launched what Russia’s defence ministry called a “large-scale” assault on five axes in the south-east of Donetsk province, in eastern Ukraine. Some of them may indeed threaten the land bridge; others were further to the north. Western officials tell The Economist that this does in fact mark the start of the offensive, with attacks also under way on other parts of the front. Yet the cream of Ukraine’s forces has not yet appeared on the battlefield.

One Ukrainian attack took place around Velyka Novosilka, a minor settlement south-west of Donetsk city. Alexander Khodakovsky, commander of a Russian militia in Donetsk, said that Ukraine had followed up that attack by pretending to pull its forces back and then striking later at Novodonetske, around 12km to the south-east. The Ukrainians had conducted a successful assault with a limited strike force of just ten armoured vehicles, he said, adding that they had also disrupted Russian communications. Russia’s defence ministry said that Ukraine had thrown its 23rd and 31st mechanised brigades, including two tank battalions, at the front.”

Designed to support the U.S. Army Captains Career Course, “Understanding Combined Arms Warfare” defines and outlines the important aspects of modern combined arms operations. This is not a complete history of combined arms warfare. It is intended to highlight the most important aspects of the subject.

The beginning of the documentary establishes a common understanding of combined arms warfare by discussing doctrinal and equipment developments in World War I. The second part compares the development of French and German Army mechanization during the interwar period and describes how each country fared during the Battle of France in 1940. The film concludes by showing how the United States applied combined arms operations in the European Theater in World War II.

[ Finally! Ukrainians Took by Storm The Southern Front | Counter Offensive Begun ]

••Day 466: Jun 04

Today there is a lot of good news.

In the Belgorod region, after seeing that Russian forces were simply incapable of holding off even small assault groups, the Freedom of Russia Legion and Russian Volunteer Corps decided to rapidly increase the scale of their operations.

The insurgent forces opened 7 more lines of attack and managed to secure at least 4 settlements, namely, Solntsevka, Sereda, Maryno, and Leninskiy; while the fights are taking place in 9 more settlements, including Zibrovka, Shebekino, and Voznesenovka.

Combat footage confirms the ongoing operations in multiple settlements.

Russian officials were forced to admit that the issue was not resolved and started a massive evacuation.

At the moment, Russian forces lost control over 200 square kilometers of the Belgorod region.

The crisis continues to escalate, and more and more sources start to consider Belgorod as a new front line.

The scale of the operation also implies that the losses increase, which is why the commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps asked the Head of the Belgorod region to swap prisoners of war.

The Head of the Belgorod region declined the offer, called them terrorists, and said that he doubted that Russian soldiers were alive anyways.

The Head of the Wagner Group, Prigozhin, immediately responded by viciously criticizing the decision to basically abandon Russian soldiers and said that it costs nothing to organize a regular prisoner exchange that happens all the time anyways.

Simultaneously, it was revealed that the Russian Ministry of Defense tried to ambush and kill the withdrawing Wagner forces from Bakhmut.

Prigozhin said that his troops noticed strange activity in the rear, and when they checked the roads, it turned out that someone completely mined them as if planning to take out the whole convoy.

Prigozhin said that they de-mined the area, but when withdrawing, they were hit with artillery fire that was probably supposed to take out the survivors after the mines detonated.

The Wagner forces conducted an internal raid and took captive the artillery crew that fired at them.

Later they showed a video with the commander of the Russian 72nd Brigade, that confessed that a group of 12 people under his command fired at Wagner forces.

Prigozhin saw an opportunity in all these situations and basically said that for security reasons, he would not report when and where his forces deploy and that all operations would be conducted at his discretion, bypassing the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Prigozhin immediately took action and started redeploying certain elements of his forces to the Belgorod region, claiming that if the Russian Ministry could not do its job and protect the Russian people, then he would do it himself.

The Head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, recognized this opportunity as well and also said that he could help.

In the meantime, Russian forces started losing Bakhmut.

The moment the Wagner Group withdrew from the city and the DPR units became solely responsible for Bakhmut, Ukrainians entered the southwestern part of the city.

If you still remember, before withdrawing, Ukrainians made a very prudent decision by blowing up several high-rise buildings exactly in this area.

Later, Ukrainian Air Force conducted an airstrike and completely demolished the rest of the buildings that could be used by Russians to protect the southern part of the city.

Today a commander from the Wagner Group confirmed that Ukrainians entered the southern part of the city, which Wagner was previously holding.

Russian analysts are extremely worried that Ukrainians will leverage these gains in order to conduct a pincer movement on Klischiivka and breach the most formidable strong point without even storming it.

Today a fighter from the Aidar battalion reported that they are exacerbating the situation by blocking the rotation process with artillery fire, and based on the intercepted radio exchanges, Russians in Klischiivka may soon abandon their positions from lack of food and sheer exhaustion.

However, the biggest news by far comes from the south.

Here, Ukrainians launched a series of mechanized assaults. During the first stage of the offensive operation, Ukrainians opened 2 lines of attack: toward Novodarivka and Neskuchne.

Russian sources reported that Ukrainians used up to 2 motorized rifle companies with several T-72 tanks.

As a result, Russian defense was breached, and Russian troops retreated.

Shortly, Ukrainians launched the second stage of the offensive operation and opened 4 lines of attack: toward Levadne, Pryiutne, Storozheve, and Rivnopil.

Ukrainians once again decided to use small company-sized units for each of the attacks.

When it comes to the first two attacks, Ukrainians managed to get 3 km deep into the region but ran into mines and decided to retreat.

In Storozheve, Russian forces received reinforcements, which they could quickly and easily do because there are a lot of settlements around it, so after a short engagement, Ukrainian forces retreated.

Lastly, when it comes to Rivnopil, here Ukrainians got into a trap and faced overwhelming artillery
fire.

As a result, Ukrainians lost 1 tank and 9 cars.

Overall, Ukrainians managed to advance by 2 and, in some places, by 5 kilometers in 1 day and secure 2 settlements.

Right now, Ukrainians need to de-mine approaches to the next settlements on the line and suppress Russian artillery around Rivnopil.

So far, this was just a reconnaissance-in-force operation, as the assault units were very light.

Ukrainians also did not use seasoned assault units and heavy Western equipment, and they still managed to slice off multiple kilometers in one go.

••Bakhmut:
Some lost territory in the city regained by the UA as Wagners withdraw and replacements run away.

==
Wagners captured commander of the unit that ambushed them because they are professionals, better trained and have better equipment than the regular forces. The Russian commander was drunk as were many of his unit.

This is the first documented fight between Wagner and the regular RGF forces.

Strilkov said Prigozhin made a mistake by publishing this information for everyone to see. There are lots of friendly fire incidents happening, he said, but they are kept quiet. Further, by publishing this incident Prigozhin raises the confrontation between him and the RGF.

==
Denys’ Telegram channel has video of the small southern UA probing offensive. Not the big offensive. That will start in the next two weeks, he said.

Russians claim that they stopped the UA offensive cold,ac and that Gerasimov was not far from the front lines.

==
For Russian authorities, there is nothing happening in Shebekino. Repeat with eyes closed. Nothing is happening there!

Wagner wants to move here, if the RGF can’t handle their duties. Kadyrov said he has 70,000 troops [ which number equals 5,000 actual troops and 65,000 filming Tic Tok videos ] to send to the area.

Prigozhin says if the local authorities do not take the offered Russian POWs, he will send high ranking commanders to get them back. But no one came to take the POWs, and they were sent to Ukraine for a future exchange.

The Governor of the Oblast called the Kremlin over this issue, but got no response. There is nothing happening in Shebekino.

What is happening now is the worst case scenario of the Russian Federation.

Exports in Reverse

“Russia ‘buying back’ arms parts exported to Myanmar and India”

“Reimports appear aimed at improving weapons for use in Ukraine war”

“Russia is suspected of buying back military supplies previously shipped to Myanmar and India, according to a Nikkei analysis of customs clearance data.

The survey found records of Russian repurchases of parts for tanks and missiles that had been exported to Myanmar and India. Russia may be reimporting the components to improve older weapons destined for use in Ukraine, relying on help from countries with which it has long-standing military ties.

The U.S., European nations and Japan have banned exports of goods with potential military use to Russia since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.”

“Russian mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin said Monday that Ukrainian forces have retaken part of the settlement of Berkhivka, north of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine.

“Now part of the settlement of Berkhivka has already been lost, the troops are quietly running away. Disgrace!” Prigozhin said in an audio message published by his press service.

Prigozhin urged Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and the chief of the general staff, Valery Gerasimov, to come to the front to rally the troops.

“Come on, you can do it!” he said. “And if you can’t, you’ll die heroes,” he said.

Prigozhin’s private Wagner militia captured Bakhmut last month after the longest battle of the war and handed its positions there to regular Russian forces.

The businessman has repeatedly denounced Russia’s regular military for abandoning ground captured earlier by his men.”

“Turkey, Finland and Sweden will meet on June 12 to discuss Stockholm’s bid to join the NATO military alliance, which has so far been stalled by Ankara’s objections, according to a NATO statement released on Sunday.

The announcement followed a meeting of NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg and newly reelected Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul.

Finland and Sweden renounced their long-standing policy of political neutrality following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and jointly applied for NATO membership in June last year. Finland was accepted and joined the military organization in April.

Stockholm’s accession has been delayed by Turkish concerns that Sweden harbors militants of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, which Ankara, the United States, the EU and others designated as a terrorist organization.”

“An energy facility was set on fire following a drone attack in the Russian city of Belgorod, by the Ukrainian border, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram overnight, according to a Google translation.

He added that services were not shut down.

Belgorod has suffered both Ukrainian and domestic offensives in recent days. Earlier, an anti-Kremlin Russian paramilitary group, the Russian Volunteer Corps, on Sunday offered on Telegram to surrender two captive Russian soldiers to Gladkov, if the governor arrived in person to receive them in the Novaya Tavolzhanka locality.”

Keyword: Limited. This is just another reconnaissance in force action, not a offensive - no Western equipment used. There are others like this one.

The real offense is still some time off, apparently. We will know its on, as there will be no ambiguity.
