Plus, these islands are geologically very unstable.
They are quickly building up by volcanic activity and then quickly eroding.
There had been documented massive landslides there before.
Like the Oahu Island used to be double the size and one day, half of it collapsed!

I just saw a show on this on Tubi. They did a good job presenting, and crisis sells. So, yes it collapsed, but how fast? I don’t know how they can distinguish between a slow and a sudden collapse in the past. They even identified a current change, something like an inch a year, that they called a slow-motion collapse.
