Another Ukrainian BIG WIN.

“Ukrainians claim to have destroyed large Russian warship in Berdiansk”

“Ukrainian armed forces on Friday identified a large Russian landing ship that they said they destroyed at the port of Berdiansk in southern Ukraine the day before.

The port, which had recently been occupied by Russian forces with several Russian warships in dock, was rocked by a series of heavy explosions soon after dawn on Thursday.

Social media videos showed fires raging at the dockside, with a series of secondary explosions reverberating across the city.”

“In a statement, the armed forces said: “In the Azov operational zone, according to updated information, a large landing ship “Saratov” was destroyed during the attack on the occupied Berdiansk port. Large landing ships “Caesar Kunikov” and “Novocherkassk” were [also] damaged. Other losses of the enemy are being clarified.”

Several Russian ships had been unloading military equipment at Berdiansk in recent days, according to reports from the port by Russian media outlets.”

Ukraine must enter NATO. It is the ultimate guarantee of peace in Europe.

“If a Divided Germany Could Enter NATO, Why Not Ukraine?”

“West Germany joined NATO in 1955, choosing security over immediate territorial integrity. Some suggest the same path could be the best guarantee for Ukraine.”

“Though peace seems distant, the United States and Europe are debating how to guarantee Ukraine’s security once the fighting with Russia stops, even without a total victory by either side. West Germany may provide a model, a precedent for admitting a divided country into NATO.

Despite its division and unhappy role as the border between nuclear armed rivals during the Cold War, West Germany became a NATO member in 1955, benefiting from the alliance’s protection, without ever giving up its commitment to unification, finally realized in 1989.

For Ukraine, much will depend on the shape of the battlefield after its coming counteroffensive, and whether the outcome leads to some kind of extended cease-fire, relatively stable borderlines, or even peace talks.”

Weird but CNN reposted last years article on the attack on Berdiansk as an article this morning as a ‘new attack’.

Sorry for the confusion.

From April 11, 2001:
The Russian Navy Ropucha II class landing ship Novocherkassk, damaged in an apparent Ukrainian attack on the Russian-occupied port of Berdyansk on the Sea of Azov, southeast Ukraine, in March last year, has been seen in dry dock in Sevastopol for the first time since the incident.

The same attack likely led to the complete destruction of the Project 1171 Alligator class landing ship Saratov, after an explosion and fire on board, while the Novocherkassk, together with sister vessel Tsesar Kunikov, were seen departing the port soon after, at least one of them also on fire.

There have been claims made that the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched an attack on the Saratov, potentially using one of their Tochka (SS-21 Scarab) short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs), but there’s so far no evidence to confirm exactly what led to the inferno on the vessel.
