NRA Annual Meeting, 2023: 1000’s to hear President Trump, Knife Rights Helps Out

You may have heard: The NRA leadership is in the middle of significant legal problems. It appears to be true, with severely biased, politically motivated prosecutors going after the NRA. An obvious reason is:  the NRA was once a very effective political organization.  It has also been a very effective fundraising organization. Many believe the funds have not been spent wisely.

The NRA leadership has not helped with what appears to be significant favoritism, cutting legal corners, lack of transparency, and a reluctance to allow any but a tiny few to see the books on who gets what for what. The lack of transparency is like a red flag to motivated prosecutors and those who believe unethical shenanigans have been ongoing.

The good news is the strength of the NRA has never been in its leadership. The leadership of the organization had to be dragged into the political fight, kicking and screaming.  It has always been ready to cut a deal. Cutting deals is sometimes required. Many believe the deals cut could have been much better for the NRA membership.  Neal Knox, one of the most effective leaders this correspondent has ever known, was driven from the organization because he criticized the deals which were made. Unfortunately, Neal died in 2005.

The strength of the NRA has always been:

The NRA is in significant legal trouble. Much of the damage is self inflicted.

Whatever you do, never make the mistake I made.

Don't give your home phone # to Wayne LaPierre.

They were silent while trump signed the bumpstock ban. I left because they betrayed their principles because someone has an R after their official title.
With trumps mail in ballots this gave the ruling class perpetual tyranny.
No going back to a lukewarm 2A.

It [the NRA] has always been ready to cut a deal. Cutting deals is sometimes required.

The left doesn't think so. And, they constantly win.

LaPierre’s leadership style may have been one of the reasons Oliver North left that organization years ago.

I quit the NRA when Ollie North left the organization. Col. North left because of La Pierre. I may rejoin if La Pierre is fired, but no guarantees. He has run the NRA into the ground, making it his personal cash cow.

Kyle Rittenhouse.

He proved what a fraud the NRA is.

The NRA is to gun owners what Jesse Jackass and Al Notsosharpton are to blacks.

Anyone that supports the NRA is shooting themselves in the foot.

Dean, where was the NRA during the Kyle Rittenhouse saga?

You are a very well traveled and experienced man. You should be able to see how pathetic the NRA has become.

Still an NRA member, along with GOA, and some local gun orgs. The NRA is still the 500lb gorilla. But according to some posters, “united” is not in the conservative vernacular.

The NRA has, unfortunately, become a “cult of Wayne.”

The NRA needs a repeat of the 1977 uprising. Unfortunately, I see no Knox or Carter to lead it.

I renewed in the hopes that we will see a revival in the next 5 years.
