Egypt suspended a plan to secretly supply missiles to Russia. Instead, the country decided to produce artillery ammunition for Ukraine.
As Censor.NET reports, the Washington Post writes about this with reference to five documents of American intelligence.
Last week, the newspaper reported on another document that exposed a secret scheme proposed by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in February to provide Russia with up to 40,000 122mm Sakr-45 missiles that could be used in Russia’s multiple-launch rocket systems. Sisi instructed his subordinates to keep the project secret “to avoid problems with the West.”
At the same time, new documents show that in early March, Sisi refused to supply Moscow.
“Although Egypt has long-standing diplomatic and military relations with Russia, it has been America’s main ally in the Middle East for decades and receives more than $1 billion a year in US military aid,” WP writes.
Yes, Egypt shelved the Moscow agreement and approved the sale of 152 mm and 155 mm artillery shells to the United States for transfer to Ukraine.
“Washington was trying to gain new supporters - and badly needed ammunition - for Kyiv’s fight against Russian troops. Egypt intended to use its weapons production capabilities for Ukraine as a ‘leverage’ to obtain advanced American military products,” the newspaper writes.
It will be recalled that The Washington Post previously reported that Egypt planned to secretly manufacture and transfer 40,000 missiles to the Russian Federation. Source: https://censor.net/en/n3412780
