I’ll field that one. In no particular order:
1. Democrat cheating.
2. Excellent campaign ads by Fetterman’s team. They painted him as an active and concerned Pennsylvanian, they kind of guy who’d make a great next-door neighbor. If you didn’t read sites like Free Republic, you’d probably believe that.
3. Dr. Oz. He was the GOP candidate. Oz was simply a bad fit for PA: he’s a smarmy Hollywood millionaire outsider. Not quite the guy Joe Six-Pack would be motivated to support.
Oh, and Oz’s campaign ads were terrible. They had him wearing a hard hat, and wandering around a PA factory like he was lost. Which he probably was.
I’m quite aware of Dr. Oz’s deficiency as a candidate.
However, Fetterman was clearly mentally incapacitated when he was running for the Senate. Even Oz was better than someone totally unable to serve!!
Perhaps the voters thought that Fetterman’s wife would step in and serve in his place. I don’t know.
