Nobody has posted to this yet, so I guess I will say Henrietta dman is paralyzed and tweeted why she wants a female caregiver. She was attacked by transgender rights activists (TRAs). She was called transphobe, Nazi, Fascist, et al. # #IStandWithHenrietta.
In my opinion patients have every right to discriminate about who they want providing their care. They should not have to give a reason. It might be because they are fearful of having a male giving intimate care. It might even be because they can’t understand a foreign accent. It might turn out they really are just racist assholes. Does not matter. Bodily autonomy is a big part of human dignity. That includes the right to set boundaries. During severe illness so much of that is loss. In matters when those requested by a patient can be respected they should be followed.
