On (I think) the tenth anniversary of her death, Paul participated in a special on one of the networks, talking about their life together. I’ll always remember what he said was the thing - according to Paul - that sealed the deal with Linda: she told him she would “make him a home”. This international superstar who had - no doubt - had anyone he wanted, anytime he wanted, for long enough to be 100% jaded and tired of it all. I’m sure she wasn’t the prettiest or the most glamorous woman he had been involved with, but she offered him the one thing his heart was ready for - home and family.
I read that Paul tried to ease Linda’s passage when she was near death. He tried to get her to remember and visualize one of the happiest memories she had which was riding on a horse and feeling carefree. He thinks he succeeded.
Such a sad thing.
I thought about his doing that after my wife died at home quietly last year and that I didn’t know she was going to be gone during a time of maybe two minutes as I left the room and came back. No doctor said she was in her last days or anything like that. I think it was best that way that she didn’t suffer or have to dread knowing she was dying.
